SIGMA Consortium - Fictitious domains for topography
Modeling of Elastic Waves in Complex
Media
An efficient method has been developed to solve problems posed in anisotropic
heterogeneous media, involving topographies
with complex geometries. It is essentially
based on:
- the use of structured meshes combined
with the fictitious domain method in order
to take into account the complex geometry
of the topography,
- the construction of new finite elements
for the Velocity-Stress mixed formulation which lead to explicit
time discretization schemes,
- the use of the Berenger's Perfectly Matched Layers
adapted to elasticity as efficient absorbing boundary
conditions.
