I am director of the Sino-French IT Lab, LIAMA in Beijing. The joint lab has been created in 1997 by the French Institute for Computer Science and Control INRIA and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with the Institute of Automation CASIA. The lab hosts research projects involving close to 100 researchers and students. Pioneer in Sino-European projects supported by the European Commission, LIAMA also enjoys a strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology in China, as a recognized platform for international cooperation.

Research
Principal investigator of the Netquest Project team in LIAMA, I pursue research on ad hoc networks of cooperating objects. Our objective is to develop innovative solutions for adaptive networking and applications over multihop networks based on distributed query processing techniques. This project is carried on in cooperation with FTR&D Beijing Lab under a Cooperative Research Contract.
Researcher in the field of databases, I have worked, for many years in the Verso project at INRIA, on the development and the foundations of query languages for complex data types, such as complex objects, spatio-temporal data and statistical data. I have developed the DEDALE system, a spatial database prototype based on constraints.

I have the habilitation as PhD advisor in the University of Paris XI since 1995, as well as in the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2006. I am the first foreigner to obtain this title, in any field, in the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

I am co-PC-Chair of the 9th International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM'08) Beijing, China, April 27-30, 2008

International cooperation
I have extensively been involved in the management of international cooperation. From 2000 to 2003, I have been director for international relations at INRIA, and then became science counselor in the French Embassy in Beijing from 2003 to 2005. Member of the French national Commission of UNESCO (2001-2006). Following closely the S&T policy in China, I wrote several papers on its evolution.

The list of most of my publications can be found on the DBLP server. The files can be downloaded from the FTP server of the Gemo project at INRIA as well as from the HAL archive. References to my papers can be found on the scientific literature digital library citeseer as well as on Google Scholar. More on my Biography.
